Scott/Amundsen South Pole Race Centenary

Team Fire and Ice GB are proud to have been accepted onto the 2012 Amundsen Omega 3 South Pole Race. This follows the same format as the recent BBC series "On Thin Ice" - that included the team of Ben Fogle, James Cracknell and Ed Coats.

In two years time it will be the 100th anniversary of the Scott/Amundsen Race.

This momentous occasion will be commemorated by the running of the 2012 race that will consist of 10 highly trained teams with competitors from various countries (including Britain, Australia, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Russia) competing to reach the South Pole in the shortest time.

Prior to the 2012 race, the team have many events planned to raise their profile and the Charities that they are raising funds for. The main charities are; SSAFA Forces Help, and the Fire Fighter's Charity. The main event on the build-up to 2012 was to conquer the Matterhorn in Switzerland in May 2010.

In order to achieve their aim they are actively seeking a main sponsor willing to support Team Fire and Ice GB. They are also exploring fundraising opportunities to capitalise on collecting as much as they can for their chosen charities.
To assist in raising the profile of the team and charities they are also looking to get as many celebrities on board as possible as supporters/patrons.

“We look forward to welcoming Team Fire & Ice G.B. to the Cardiff Blues training centre for a training session in February.

The guys came down last month to see the type of training that professional rugby players do and although there are some similarities between the training regimes obviously pulling a sledge for 550 miles requires specialized strength and stamina training

It'll be interesting to see what the team are like when we put them through their paces in the New Year.”
